My principle role at Traditional Restoration Services was as an Assessor for Mendip Damp and Timber Treatment and combined with my Building Surveyor training I have a wealth of surveying expereince and understanding in diagnosing the cause of damp in all forms of buildings. My particular speciality though is the traditionally constructed rubble stone walled buildings of Frome and the BA11 area. 

Many of the traditional Frome buildings with rubble stone walls lack a damp proof course or have had an inapporpriate injected damp proof course installed. Before jumping to the conclusion that rising damp is the cause of damp in these buildings it is crucial to eliminate all other causes of damp before concluding that expensive and disruptive tanking or other damp proofing work is necessary.

The three causes of damp problems (unless you include bad plumbers) are - Penetrating damp, Rising damp and Condensation. An accurate diagnosis of which cause, or combination of causes, is producing the damp problem is crucial if an effective remedy is to be found and unnecessary work, disruption and expense avoided. Often simply increasing ventilation or fixing faulty guttering is enough to cure the problem.

I offer an unbiased damp assessment / survey and advice on the appropriate measures to undertake to eliminate damp problems in your property.  Armed with this information you can then engage the appropriate contractors to carry out the work required. These assessments are of particular use to landlords where condensation problems are usually the cause of damp problems reported by tenants. Unfortunately due to the number of enquiries I receive with regards to damp problems, I do have to charge for an assessment in order to make a living.
